Sustainable Production

The Concrete Valley companies strive for the most responsible production methods possible. Our sustainability principles are fully embedded in our business model, our culture and our strategy. We are constantly looking for more sustainable raw materials and smarter production methods in order to reduce our environmental impact.

The Concrete Valley companies strive for the most responsible production methods possible. Our sustainability principles are fully embedded in our business model, our culture and our strategy. We are constantly looking for more sustainable raw materials and smarter production methods in order to reduce our environmental impact.

Sustainability Improvements and Our Approach

Concrete Valley’s primary aim is to create long-term sustainable value. The global cement industry is considered to be responsible for over 5% of all CO2 emissions caused by man. It is our ambition to reduce CO2 emissions and our impact on the environment. We are constantly looking for innovative ways and materials to make our production methods more sustainable.

Materials

Cement is an important raw material for our concrete products. We reduce the amount of cement in our concrete mixtures by replacing it with other materials such as blast-furnace slag. Blast furnace slag is a residual product of the steel manufacturing industry. It reduces the amount of cement needed and makes the concrete denser and more chloride-resistant. We actively conduct research into alternative materials that may contribute to our sustainability objectives.

Less material

We believe that the best way to reduce our CO2 emissions is to minimize our material usage. For example, we use as little cement as possible.

Waco makes products with miscanthus (elephant grass) and usage recycled concrete granulate that is released during the demolition of old buildings. mbX uses fibreglass to reinforce its products, resulting in a minimum shell thickness of approx. 15 mm. Already in the initial design phase, microbeton optimises the products to be made in such a way that a minimum amount of material is required. As a result, microbeton saves an average of 70 per cent in material compared to a traditional alternative in concrete.

Production

In our fully automated mixing plant, we can produce up to 300 m3 of concrete per day. Using sophisticated processes and accurate measuring, we optimize the design and production of the various mixtures. This reduces the use of cement to a minimum and the waste flow due to faulty productions to practically nil.

Timber

Timber Structures works exclusively with wood. No material is as suitable for recycling as wood. The recycling process requires very little energy. If wood is not recycled, it can be used to generate renewable energy. The amount of CO2 released does not exceed the amount of CO2 stored in the wood during its growth. That makes the use of wood before recycling fully CO2 neutral. Wood is also fully biodegradable, so future generations will not be burdened with today’s waste.

Energy

At Concrete Valley, we have set ourselves the goal of being fully self-sufficient in our energy production before 2025. Our buildings will no longer be heated with gas, but with the heat and energy we generate ourselves.

Technology / Engineering

With its smart and innovative techniques, Concrete Valley contributes to a more sustainable world, now and in the future. Whenever possible, we use flexible, adjustable moulds that allow us to create many different shapes with one mould. For shapes beyond the scope of the flexible mould, we use a fully optimized milling process. Thanks to the cutting edge design software and accurate planning, only a few millimeters are removed for each mould.

Dedicated Staff

We believe in our team of dedicated, experienced professionals with which we realize our ambitions. That is why we invest in creating a diverse and inclusive working environment that challenges and inspires our employees to develop their career within Concrete Valley.

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION IN THE VALLEY

Reducing Our Environmental Impact

Our goal is to halve our environmental footprint and product use by 2030, while our business continues to grow. In addition, we are constantly looking for more sustainable materials for the production of our elements.

Making sure our business operations are safe, efficient, responsible, and profitable

That is the guiding principle of our business operations. Protecting and respecting people – our employees, contractors and neighbours – is at the heart of the way we do business. We have set global standards, processes and tools to help us manage safety, the environment and our interaction with communities. We continually strive to improve the processes and to identify, minimize and, if possible, prevent any social and environmental impact.

We aim to be energy neutral by 2025, by generating all of our needed energy
